WHO WEARS IT
interviews by Olga Sládková
SOŇA ČERVENÁ
How would you introduce yourself to a person who has never heard of you
“You don’t really know me? You're my guardian angels, aren't you? So please call me sometimes on the phone number: SI RE FA X LA LA SOL MI MI.”
(In case you really never heard of Soňa Červená: Mrs. Červená is an opera singer and actress, with successes in Czech Republic and countries abroad especially German-speaking. She received the honorable state medal for merit and you could see her performing, for example, at the Prague Estates Theatre in the play “The Makropulos Case”. Several documentaries have been made about her.)
What do you like to surround yourself with? The presence of what specifically makes you happy?
“Loneliness. The presence of swans when I look out the window at the Vltava river.
How important are smells or odors for you? Which scent or smell does carry the strongest memories or emotion for you?
“I love scents. I'm curious about perfumes and I've tried almost all of the "famous" ones in my long life. BUT the perfume EROTIKON from PIGMENTARIUM smells the most beautiful and really inspired me, I “met” the scent around two years ago, when I unexpectedly received a beautiful bottle as a gift after one of my concerts ... It was a turning point in my lifelong perfume wandering.
PIERRE A. M'PELE
aka PAM BOY
How would you introduce yourself to a person who has never heard of you?
I'd say "Hi my name is Pierre, and I am a kind of fashion nymphomaniac who never gets an orgasm." I've borrowed that quote from Karl Lagerfeld, because I completely recognise myself in it. That would set the tone.
What do you like to surround yourself with? The presence of what specifically makes you happy?
I like analysing my surroundings because one never knows what will catch their eye or inspire a creative idea. So in that regard, I like everything around me. I particularly, and weirdly, also enjoy background or white noises. To me, it's kind of a way to avoid jumping out of reality. I must admit I love the smell of warm homemade brioche in the morning, it's one of the simple but important pleasures in life. On another note, I enjoy creativity, and whichever form it manifests itself in, because it is the essence of who we are as a species.
How important are smells or odors for you? Which scent or smell does carry the strongest memories or emotion for you?
Considering olfaction is one of our first senses to develop, I assume scents and fragRances are paramount to us all. It's what makes our life experiences either delicious or nauseaous. The scents that conjure the strongest memories and emotions are shea butter's, almond oil's, and argan oil's. They all remind how I grew up, traveling accross West and North Africa. I am also quite attracted to the scent of gasoline, for inexplicable reasons, and I find it rather intoxicating. It evokes something dangerous and illegal to me.
What perfume by Pigmentarium is your favorite and why? When and how do you wear it?
My favourite is probably EROTIKON because I can never dislike a perfume with vanilla.
ZUZANA KANISOVÁ
How would you introduce yourself to a person who has never heard of you?
I am a stylist and a creative consultant. I am inspired by architecture, literature and art. I do yoga and I am a vegetarian. I do live in Bratislava.
What do you like to surround yourself with? The presence of what specifically makes you happy?
In private, I like space, light and silence. I surround myself with things, including furniture, that look harmonious and soothing. I am easily addicted to fresh flowers, the purchase of which has become a ritual. When I think about it, nothing makes me happier in everyday life than flowers. In addition, I like scented candles that I have in every room.
How important are smells or odors for you? Which scent or smell does carry the strongest memories or emotion for you?
Smells are very important to me. I connect events, stages of life or people with them. Perhaps the most popular is the smell of chocolate, which binds me to my childhood. We lived near the Figaro factory, where they made chocolate. Often the air was literally saturated with its scent. It could be felt but could not be seen. Every time I go back I deeply inhale passing the factory. Perfumes from Calvin Klein (Obsession) and Yves Saint Laurent (Opium), which stand for a certain period, are related to adolescence.
However I wouldn't wear them nowadays anymore . The smell of coffee, fresh bread and of my dog Puri makes me feel safe. The most attractive is the scent of incense and sandalwood.
Which Pigmentarium perfume is your favorite and why? When and how do you wear it?
My favorite perfume from Pigmentarium is PARADISO. It's a unique scent that smells like nothing else. Pure, sensual, perfect unisex. It is ideal for summer wonderfully flawless. Men's shirt, loose jeans, mules, sunglasses and the wind in your hair - a complete paradise.”
