ORATORIO 2024

ORATORIO 2024

Does fragrance have a visual form? If so, is it represented by its ideal wearer, the inspiration behind its creation, or the dominant ingredient evoking certain associations? Just like a book cover, the visual portrayal of a fragrance aims to capture and express its essence. One year after the release of Pigmentarium's groundbreaking perfume Oratorio, created by perfumer Théo Belmas, its new artistic interpretation emerges. Captured through a series of photographs by Hana Kníová and emotion-filled shots by Viktoryia Vaitusionak, it explores the interplay of light and shadow in a timeless, evocative setting. A place where time stands still for a moment. Where the flow of life is captured through another form of art. Where we are alone and yet, through art, connected to the whole world. In the vast studio of sculptor and restorer Martin Žák, surrounded by fragments, figures, and rays of the afternoon sun.

Light shines brightest where it is scarce. Just as sunbeams pierce through shadows and objects, the fragrance Oratorio opens with a delicate yet striking note of Madagascar mandarin peel oil. This introduction is complemented by the unique tones of jasmine and neroli, which gradually deepen into sophisticated layers of incense and cedarwood. The composition—both extraordinarily original and surprisingly classic—is completed by earthy patchouli accords and the meditative depth of opoponax. The fragrance’s head and heart radiate through the contrast provided by its symbolic counterpart—shadow.

The choice of simplicity framing the character of the Oratorio fragrance is essential and reflects the philosophy behind Martin ák’s work. His creations speak as profoundly as his words about his artistic approach: "The body, in its realist or impressionist form, still has much to say, even in today’s fast-paced world focused on 'quick art.' Timeless themes, especially from ancient mythology, parallel modern life, showing everyday stories. The thoughtful and refined figurative work, which only few artists practice today, is meant to evoke in the viewer a desire for generosity in life. More importantly, it serves as a reminder of the strength within and around us—a power greater than ourselves, something transcendent and divine.

The artistic styles of Hana and Viktorie have long been intertwined with the Pigmentarium brand, with Hana Kníová being involved from the very beginning. Their talent for capturing the essence without unnecessary gestures, combined with a deep connection to the olfactory art of the perfumer, results in a portrayal that perfectly reflects the fragrance's form. Movement. A moment of presence. A moment when we are truly ourselves. The essence of the Oratorio perfume.
